Ways We Serve
In Lions District 301c, our commitment to service spans a wide range of initiatives aimed at improving lives and strengthening communities. We address issues such as blindness, diabetes, and food insecurity, and actively participate in environmental conservation and disaster recovery. Our efforts also include engaging with youth, supporting families affected by cancer, and collaborating with global organizations to provide humanitarian aid. Through these diverse activities, we work tirelessly to uplift and support those in need, embodying the spirit of service at the heart of Lions.
Vision
At the Lions Clubs International Convention in 1925, Helen Keller inspired the Lions to take up the cause of blindness, calling them her “Knights of the Blind” in the battle against darkness. Since then, our enduring mission to eliminate and prevent avoidable blindness has remained strong. Alongside this mission, we also support individuals with visual impairments, helping them enhance their quality of life by providing assistance whenever and wherever it’s needed.
Diabetes
By 2045, diabetes is projected to affect over 600 million adults worldwide. Given its impact on quality of life and its potential to cause blindness, the Lions are dedicated to addressing diabetes within our communities. Our efforts include funding eye research, conducting educational outreach, and providing diabetes screenings. Additionally, we organize walks and other activities to raise funds and increase awareness about diabetes.
Hunger
Over 10 percent of the U.S. population experiences food insecurity. In Massachusetts, it's estimated that one in ten people, including one in nine children, are affected by this issue. We are committed to reducing these numbers by regularly donating food and funds to the Holliston Pantry Shelf and providing meals to senior citizens, whether at Mission Springs or the Holliston Senior Center.
Environment
Environmental issues pose a serious threat to the health and well-being of our communities. Each year, the Holliston Lions Club takes part in highway cleanups, donates cans and bottles to the local Boy Scouts, and supports events like Holliston in Bloom along with other environmental initiatives. Looking ahead, we aim to engage in more projects that help protect our environment, including clothing drives.
Youth
We are committed to engaging with the youth in our community. In Holliston, we achieve this by offering high school students volunteer opportunities through the LEOs program. Additionally, we sponsor students each year for events such as the Peace Poster Contest, Youth Speech Contest, and Lions All State Band.
Humanitarian Efforts
The core of the Lions' mission is to provide humanitarian aid to those in need. The Holliston Lions Club contributes annually to the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) to support global efforts. LCIF collaborates with organizations like Special Olympics International and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, among others, to deliver critical services to those who need them most around the world.
Disaster Aid
Where there’s a need, there’s a Lion. The Holliston Lions Club donates annually to the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) to support disaster recovery efforts. Any region affected by a natural disaster is immediately eligible for $10,000 emergency grants. Our assistance doesn’t end when the disaster is over; instead, you’ll find Lions working alongside communities, helping to rebuild lives and restore neighborhoods.
Childhood Cancer
The family is the core around which most communities are built, and the well-being of the next generation is deeply connected to the support of the local community. Lions and Leos have witnessed the impact of cancer on children and their families and remain committed to bringing hope through practical service and unwavering support.
