When Typhoon Maymay crossed Northern Philippines in August 2026, the clubs of District 301-C did not wait to be asked. Over roughly two weeks, Lions moved through Baguio, the Cordillera, Ilocos Sur, Pangasinan and La Union, carrying relief packs into barangays that had taken the worst of it.
What follows is a record of that response, assembled from the district’s own reports as each operation happened.
It began with hot meals
On 7 August, as Typhoon Maymay affected families in San Fernando, La Union, Lions of District 301-C came together to prepare and serve hot meals. As the district put it at the time, it was more than sharing a meal. It was a way of letting the community know they were not alone.
Mahalaga LCIF Relief Operation, 10 and 11 August
The main effort ran under the Mahalaga LCIF Relief Operation, supported by Lions Clubs International Foundation. It reached across four regions of the district on two consecutive days, with each zone running its own distribution.
Baguio and the Cordillera
Zone 1 reached Dominican Hill, working through heavy rain. Zone 2 covered Quezon Hill, Barangay Surong Guisad and Barangay Liteng Pacdal. Zone 3 reached Barangay San Luis and Dominican Mirador. Zone 4 distributed at Puguis Elementary School.
Ilocos, Pangasinan and La Union
Candon City, Ilocos Sur ran operations on both 10 and 11 August. The Pangasinan Region distributed relief packs to families affected by flooding on 11 August. The La Union Region reached families in Poro, Catbangen and surrounding barangays the same day.
In times of storm, we stand together
On 11 August the district set aside the logistics to acknowledge what the storm had cost. Its message extended heartfelt sympathies to all the families who had lost loved ones, and noted that kindness and compassion can bring hope even in the darkest moments.
A second batch
The response did not stop with the first distribution. On 18 August, Lions gathered at the Baguio Pines City Lions Club Clubhouse to repack Mahalaga relief goods for a second batch.
The people who made it possible
Every one of these operations was carried out by Lions, Leos, volunteers and donors who gave their time and resources. The district thanked them at each stop, and the pattern across every report is the same: local clubs reaching the barangays they already know, with support from the wider district behind them.
